Whispered Apologies
You both know of www.qwantz.com, a web comic written by Ryan North. I think it's incredibly cleverly written. Recently I discovered another comic he's partially responsible for: Whispered Apologies.
They're all one-offs, all written and drawn by different combinations of people, though Ryan North writes most of them I think. The best ones only have humour as a sideline in the strip. Some of them are a little obscure and weird, but some I find are profoundly poetic. I urge you to go and read through the archives there (there are only a couple of handfuls (handsful?) of them so far).

I'm hardly becoming a Romantic. I'd argue that I haven't changed at all! I've always had this artistic facet, just as I've always had a cold hard scientific facet. You just hear about them in varying degrees, depending on which I feel like sharing.
As for the exclamation mark at the end, I think it fits the author's mind perfectly. "The guy at the photo shop" sounds rather naïve to me. So of course he'd be surprised to hear someone say he's in love - him, in love! He's only naïve, and now he's in love.
Anyway, read some of the others there. Some of the funny bits are bloody funny :) e.g., RUTTA CHUGGA RUTTA CHUGGA -

I was curious as to why you had split those sentences out onto separate lines, but didn't give it much thought.
It'd been better (and more obvious, imo) if it was one whole sentence, or a couple spread over 3 lines. And of course, no smilies :p
Still, neat that you did it at all :)
